Product Details

A 12-inch Vinyl Sculpture featuring the iconic Skeletor character from Masters of the Universe - reimagined in artist Madsaki's unique faux naïf style.

Each sculpture includes a hand-signed certificate of authenticity from MADSAKI as well as white gloves to better care for your art piece.

Madsaki and Mattel Creations team up to create this exclusive and iconic drop - a scaled down re-creation of the larger-than-life SKELETOR sculpture that turned the heads of fans and art critics alike as a centerpiece of Madsaki’s “1984” solo exhibition at Tokyo’s Kaikai Kiki Gallery in 2020, in special colorway exclusive to the re-creation. With a facial expression depicted in dripping spay paint style, its vivid coloring has been calculated to contrast with the HE-MAN and BATTLE CAT re-creation sculptures produced earlier. Skeletor, the most famous villain of Eternia, has been sublimated into a unique and special art piece, filled with the artist's childhood memories of being surrounded by his beloved toys and his respect for the culture that greatly influenced him.

ARTIST BIO

A graduate of New York City’s Parsons School of Design (BFA, 1996), MADSAKI was born in Osaka, Japan, and raised in New Jersey, USA – experiences between two cultures that formed his aesthetics and personality. While much of MADSAKI’s work centers on his interest in art history and critiquing mass culture with references to slang, movies and manga characters, the artist has recently been exploring more personal, intimate topics. To express this visually, MADSAKI developed a signature style using spray paint as a fine art medium, stemming from the fact that he has never participated in illegal graffiti on the streets. The artist is particularly known for his Wannabie's series, which at first glance humorously targets old masters, yet their deeper meaning is a reoccurring theme that can be found throughout MADSAKI’s artistic practice - an attempt to use laughter and humor as both distraction and therapy for his internal turmoil.
